By Rachel ARES BELKHEIRI and Stéphane MICHEL. QUALITA 2013 Congress, Compiègne, France, March 2013.

This communication presents the results of a first series of works carried out within the framework of an issue relating to the acquisition of HUMS (Healt and Usage Monitoring Systems) type technologies.

It describes the methodology applied to land-based defence systems to determine the economic and operational interest of these assets.
This methodology is based on the one hand on global cost of ownership estimates and operational efficiency indicators and on the other hand on a mathematical model that simulates the implementation of HUMS technologies.

This work serves as a reminder that the implementation of a conditional or even predictive maintenance policy using supervision technologies should be accompanied by a formal estimate of their economic and operational contribution.

The methodology developed in this work has finally proved to be a real decision-making tool more than a simple simulation model.
